Bad Bitches Charleston is the brain child of Chef Sarah Adams and pastry Chef Kelly Kleisner of Mirabelle Bakery. The two came up with the idea while working togather at a pop up dinner at the Butcher & Bee. They were the only women in the kitchen and each was excited to be working alongside another female. The two cooked up the idea of having a fun, female-driven pop up dinner. Both having a culinary background, they needed to find someone to help them with logistics. It didn't take much convincing to bring in the help of former Charleston Wine + Food Events Director Randi Weistein. Together, after brainstorming all the amazing women they wanted to involve, they came to the conclusion that there couldn't just be one dinner and that there was a greater cause that could benefit.
The women started the Bad Bitches Charleston scholarship fund to donate the proceeds from the dinners. On December 20th, 2016 the first 12 recipients were awarded. Funds totaled over $30k for culinary school, sommelier exams, a master naturalist program, a chocolate class, and also provied start up costs for a female run, food-focused podcast.
